ClearEther

Last updated:

Introduction

ClearEther ("the App") is a native iOS and macOS app that reports ambient radio activity around you using your device's built-in sensors. The App is an independent project. This policy describes what data the App processes and how.

In short: the App has no backend, no user accounts, and no analytics. All data (measurement snapshots, settings) is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us or to third parties.

Data we don't collect

ClearEther does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of the following:

Data stored locally

The App stores data only on your device, inside its sandboxed SwiftData container and UserDefaults:

This data never leaves your device, is not synced to iCloud, and is not accessible to us. Uninstalling the App removes all of it.

Network access

The App makes outbound HTTPS requests only to OpenCellID to fetch public cell-tower reference data used for distance estimation. No personal data is sent in those requests — only generic identifiers required to look up tower coordinates (MCC, MNC, LAC/TAC, cell ID).

The App does not send data anywhere else. We operate no backend and use no analytics or advertising services. How OpenCellID processes lookups is governed by their own privacy policy.

Third-party services

The App does not embed any third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, tracking, or backend. If purchases or subscriptions are ever added, they are handled exclusively by Apple via the App Store; the App itself never transmits payment or personal data to us or to third parties.

Permissions

The App requests only the permissions it needs to read radio activity from the device:

The App does not request access to contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or notifications.

Disclaimer

ClearEther is informational only. It is not a medical instrument, is not FDA-certified, and does not measure SAR. Readings are approximate signal-strength indicators rather than absolute power density. iOS additionally restricts enumeration of neighboring Wi-Fi and cellular networks to first-party apps, which limits what any third-party app (including this one) can observe. For authoritative exposure guidelines refer to ICNIRP and the WHO.

Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Your rights

Because the App does not transmit personal data off your device, there is no remote data for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. You remain in full control of the local data and can remove it at any time by:

Policy changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page along with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes to how data is processed will be highlighted at the top of the policy.
